DROUGHT 2020 IN THE NORTHEASTERN AREA OF FRANCE : DESIALIS WILL NOT COME BACK TO THE MARKET FOR STANDARD ALFALFA PELLETS FOR THE 2020 CROP.
On August 26th, we informed you about a difficult situation regarding the alfalfa crop due to ongoing draught in the Eastern part of France. The first 2 cuts showed a drastic drop of their yields compared to the five year average. So we announced a suspension of our sales of standard alfalfa pellets. The 3rd cut was just starting and we needed more time to assess the final picture of the crop 2020.
Today, on October 26th, we have to admit that the situation did not improve. Indeed, the 3rd cut was below expectations and the 4th cut finally showed very poor results (both yields and harvested acreages wise). This leads to an historically low volume available for Désialis. To sum it up, the 2020 average yield is below 10 Mt of dry matter / ha (-21% vs. 2019), which is the lowest level ever recorded in the last 30 years of our statistical data.
The violence of the drop forces us to take exceptional measures. Therefore, we have the regret to inform you that Désialis will not come-back to the market for additional volumes of standard alfalfa pellets for the current campaign which will end in April 2021.
Beside that, we are also keeping on hold our sales of alfalfa bales (non organic references) for the same period.
We are confirming that all current quantities engaged since the start of the campaign 2020 will be honoured.
